Omg first time stopping in. I have lived here my whole life and never really took notice of this cute little spot so you definitely don't want to miss it! It looks tiny from the outside but it's pretty spacious once you go inside and gets really busy around lunch time. Every day they have 4-5 different specials that you can get with choice of white/hapa/fried rice and green/mac salad. It's not your typical mac salad (no potatoes, doesn't seem to have eggs or mayo) so if that may be a problem, ask to see it first because you may prefer a green salad with your choice of salad dressing. I had a combo plate so I could try more than one thing and both the Thai Chicken Curry and Roast Pork was yummy. They have breakfast options and sandwiches but can't beat the local plate lunch!

I didn't get a chance to try but it was recommended to try the ice cream sandwich that is big enough for two people. So try it if you're not too full!

I wouldn't have known about this place on Maui, but thanks to my Yelp buddy - JD H. who is a world traveler, and he also just so happens to visit da 808 a lot...........
While I was checking out the Yelp site, JD had posted a great pic of his plate lunch while cruisin' on da beach in Kihei!

After seeing his plate lunch grindages, overlooking the beach in Kihei............I was thinkin' to myself - "Yo, JD.............bro, LIFE IS GOOD MY FRIEND!!!!"

I quickly bookmarked this joint, and figured the next time I'm on Maui & in the Kihei area, Bruddah Fran will converge to this little hole-in-da-wall place called - "Surfside Deli, Local Foods & Spirits" (Das what da worn out sign says!).

Upon arriving here about half past noon yesterday, my coworker & I came at the perfect time, as there was only one Bruddah ahead of us.
After looking over their small menu, I decided to get the Shoyu Chicken plate ($8.95).

My coworker wanted to get a combo plate dat get one Lau Lau, & Shoyu Chicken, but da Bruddah ahead of us wen' kapu da last Lau Lau, so my coworker was all sick, cuz Bruddah man wen' lose out!

Did you guys understand what I said?????
Let me interpret for my mainland friends on Yelp..............Lol!

I said................ my coworker wanted to get a combo plate which consisted of a Lau Lau & Shoyu Chicken, but the gentleman ahead of us got the last Lau Lau, so my coworker was all sad because he lost out! Lol!

Anyways, my coworker ended up getting the same thing that I was eating..........the Shoyu Chicken plate.

What can I say about the grindages????

I must tell you folks, this local hole-in-da-wall joint is LEGIT YO!

The Shoyu Chicken was marinaded with a high quality dark shoyu, and the marinade was delicious. Not salty or too sweet at all. The chicken meat was stewed long enough where the chicken meat was so soft, the meat just fell off the bone very easily!
With my entree, I got the Hapa Rice (a White & Brown Rice mixture), and Toss Salad, cuz Bruddah Fran hates his mayonnaise (no mac salad for me.)

Overall a very filling & enjoyable lunch!!!! I hope to return here very soon, as that Shoyu Chicken has my numba!!!!
Shoyu Chicken - "WHAT YOU DO TO ME!!!! COMMAND ME!"

Oh, I'm just getting carried away..........but really, it was so onolicious!!!! I kid you not!

MAHALO Bruddah JD for posting your wonderful pic & review! UDAMAN fo' da local kine grindz!!!!

    BREAKFAST

I have heard about this hole in the wall for a while now, and finally got a chance to check it out. For breakfast, it has a very simple menu.

I love Bloody Marys, but unfortunately they do not serve alcohol. I ended up ordering the Berry Smoothie ($5.95) and it was good.

The Loco Moco ($8.95) was decent. Most of the food is served up cafeteria style. I enjoyed their Breakfast Burrito ($8.95) more and I like how they asked if I wanted the salsa on the side or inside of my burrito. Inside was the right decision. These were two of the three breakfast meals on their daily menu.

Service was good. The staff were very friendly and social, and almost too much.

Surfside Deli does not offer Kama'aina discount. However, their prices are already so low, there really is no need.

Breakfast hours are 8 - 10:30 Monday through Saturday.

I felt disappointed. The food was all very average but you cannot beat the prices, and hole in the walls are fun to find.

Hole in the wall for sure! What they lack in asthetics, they make up for in plate lunches. Small menu which changes daily (I missed the Mochiko chicken by one day). Lau lau was flavorful and had a lot of meat. Shoyo chicken was very good too. When they run out, they run out. Don't go too late or you may be disappointed.

We were recommended this place by someone who used to be a local. The food was delicious and the service even better. The gal serving us was extra friendly and even gave us a sample of another item we hadn't ordered. We both ordered the Shoyu chicken as that's what our friend had recommended. We each got brown rice, I had green salad with their yummy housemade ranch dressing, and my husband had the macaroni salad.
At first the place was empty when we arrived around 11ish, but then once we sat down with our food tons of locals showed up to eat lunch, and they were regulars- so then we knew we were getting something good :)
An awesome place to definitely check out!
